Bloggers & Journalists Eat Free at Illegal Jacks for Edinburgh Festival

Making sure bloggers and journalists are well refreshed for covering the hundreds of shows at the Edinburgh Festival, Illegal Jacks – the city’s only contemporary Mexican restaurant  – is offering free food and drink to reviewers.

Thousands of press and bloggers hit the city during the busy month and can often be unsure where to go for a quality but inexpensive meal. But now Illegal Jacks is saying everyone’s welcome at the restaurant on 113-177 Lothian Road, EH3 9AN.

To qualify for free food, the bloggers and journalists must email, passing on their details, agreeing to review the restaurant and picking a date to go in.

Chef Jack Grills said: “Covering the festival is hungry work and it can be hard to work out where to go, so we wanted to let the press and bloggers know that they are more than welcome here. We’ll happily feed them some chicken wings and a main dish as well as a soft drink to keep them going.

“They can even file copy from here as we’re in the process of installing free wifi.

“All we ask in return are some reviews, letting us know what they thought of the venue, staff and food.”

Illegal Jacks has become a sensation in less than a year, becoming one of Edinburgh’s must-eat spots and a favourite of the Edinburgh social media crowd. It can be found online at, @illegaljacks on Twitter and

The free food offer covers all the food on the menu except desserts and the free drink offer is limited to carbonated soft drinks. One serving per member of press and attendance must be agreed beforehand. Offer runs until September 4 2010.
